This class is for the beginner who has never knit before but is curious about this fun and rewarding fiber craft. You will be introduced to basic knitting terminology; how to read a pattern; the concepts of negative, positive ease and gauge; yarn weight classifications; construction of the foundational knit stitch; how to cast on and bind off; the finishing and blocking process, and finally mattress stitch for seaming two edges of fabric together.

Class Format

Class One: Learn the anatomy of the basic knit stitch; Create a usable Mug Rug.

Class Two: Cast on Purl Soho’s Flip Side Hand Warmers, employing the backward loop cast on method.

Seaming with mattress stitch and Discussion of gauge and negative and positive ease.

Be sure to come to the shop early enough to collect your supplies purchased and your yarn wound into balls before the start of class (suggested 15-30 minutes).
